Working For a Nuclear Free City

Stumbled upon this catchy album from 2007, two disks with a ton of diversity. From the mellow instrumental ballads, to the 1:37 long "Get a fucking haircut", to the cali-pop "Sarah Dreams of Summer".

Artist: Working For a Nuclear Free City
Album: Buisnessmen & Ghosts

Hook: Je suis le Vent
Line: Asleep at the Wheel
Sinker: Sarah Dreams of Summer

One Song Two Versions

Interesting to see how different a song can feel...

Early version of "You Only Live Once" was called "I'll Try Anything Once"

Thieves

I wanted this whole album to be good so badly. "Queen of Hearts" meets all the requirements of a female lead, angsty, belting pop-punk song. I just wish there was more of it.

(sorry about the crappy video, there is just nothing out there) Preview it on amazon or iTunes.

Artist: Company of Thieves
Album: Running from a Gamble

Hook: Queen of Hearts
Line: Modern Waste
Sinker: Death of Communication

New Sublime! Sort Of.

Sublime w/ Rome posted their first new song as a group! And it sounds good, but, well, because the hook is exactly like "Lay Me Down" by Rome/Dirty Heads. We will see if they can do a whole album.

It Takes Two

Listens, that is, to sort out this song, but once you do, you realize it rocks.

Silent Disco

Roommate went to this cool thing last weekend called Silent Disco, a dance party where they hand you headphones on the way in; there are no speakers in the room. So everyone looks like they are grooving to nothing...until you throw the headphones on. Awesome concept. No, the story is not related to the posted song.

B Boys

Yeah, everyone is talking about it. So why not post it, I mean it is solid and it is noise. Normally I like it when artists don't stray too far from their normal equation (see Alkaline Trio, Jimmy Eat World, etc.). However, I feel like this album is a bit of a departure then they previous efforts and it works, really well, case and point their colab with Santigold

Artist: Beastie Boys
Album: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two

Hook: Dont Play No Game That I Cant Win
Line: Lee Majors Come Again
Sinker: Make Some Noise

Sinker: Compass

Sleigh Bells

A good one to crank it up to 11...

I usually don't like the postings on youtube, but this one rings true (see what I did there). In reference to "Kids":

"I have 2 12 inch Kicker subs in my car and a 1500 Watt amp......THIS SONG BANGS LIKE HELL"

Artist: Sleigh Bells
Album: Treats

Hook: Kids
Line: A/B Machines
Sinker: Riot Rhythm

Nod to EB for this one.

CTE

I know it's popular, but just had to make sure you had this one. Plus it's good to chronicle what I'm liking regardless of "radio play rating" (see: avril). Besides the whole album rocks.

Artist: Cage the Elephant
Album: Thank You Happy Birthday

Hook: Shake Me Down
Line: Aberdeen
Sinker: Rught Before Your Eyes (listen to this one for sure)

Low-fi Love

Rob's back!!

Listen to this through twice and you will never get the main riff out of your head:

Ashamed To Post This

Alex, you can burn me at the stake for this one. Yes, it's Ben Folds. Yes, it's a cappella. But whatever it's awesome. I was drawing a blank for my post today and this came on shuffle (yeah, I have been hiding it). You just kind of have to stop and listen to it, especially when the girl cuts in at 2:52.

Artist: Ben Folds (University of Chicago Cover)
Song: Magic
