Heading into the Wknd

So my favorite band of 2010 was by far Two Door Cinema Club. I was checking up on them and found this pretty great remix album. That all said I want the sophomore effort already. Hopefully next week will offer up some better music. Maybe some support from Burrito.

A Sad Wednesday

Listened to 20 new releases yesterday and not one was worthy of listing three tracks. Not one even had an awesome single that I felt like posting. Here is an old one to help me get through this week.

Artist: Middle Class Rut
Song: New Low

Nice to meet you, Minnesota

The new Atmosphere song sounds more like West-Coast early 90's than Atmosphere, but I'm not complaining.

Not the Department of Medicine

I got turned on to DOM last December so when they released their EP on Tuesday it sounded oddly familiar. Catchy easy to listen to stuff, I'm excited to see what they do for their sophomore effort.

Artist: DOM
Album: Sun Bronzed Greek Gods

Hook: Burn Bridges
Line: Living in America
Sinker: Rude as Jude

Oh hey, High School (in a good way)

Remember high school when every time you turned the corner there would be a good new melodic-skatepunk band on Epitaph? Well, that hasn't happened for a long time...until Heartsounds! See below for a song from their first album. They are currently working on their second, produced by none other than Mr. Brett Religion...Win!

Some Blades dig Other Blades

New Rise Against!

They kind of tried combining "Savior" with every song from "Siren Song" for this one; while it doesn't win any awards, it certainly isn't losing, either.

My Roommate Likes Cool Music

Happy Valentines Day!

So happy to be done with solo-posting on this blog, took you long enough to get your internet up and running.

Guess I kind of have to post some singer/songwriter today. So here is some good music to put on while sitting on a couch in front of a fireplace (or something rugged/romantic like that...). Early Dylan ish, but enough unique touches to make him interesting.

Nod to CMS for this one.

Artist: The Tallest Man On Earth

Hook: The Drying Of The Lawns
Line: The Sparrow And The Medicine
Sinker: The Dreamer

New DKM

WAY more poppy, don't know how I feel about that...we will see how the rest of the album shapes up. Vocals sound really different also; like Larry Arms kind of.

Grammy Winners!

In honor of their album of the year award. My attention span is keeping me from regarding this album as highly as everyone else, but I think the title track is awesome:

Everything is better with Snoop

You know what it is. The remix.

Week of Singles: 1

Tired from a weekend of cold hiking, I'm too lazy to look for new.. or more accurately... new music that has more than just one or two good songs. So I am going to dip into my queue of singles and just blog one a day. Hopefully you'll get internet soon Alex and rejuvenate my lackluster blogging.

Artist: Wild Nothing
Album: Gemini
Song: Chinatown

Ray LaMontagne

Haven't posted any alt-country stuff lately, and while I am impartial to female singers (see Neko Case) this guy has the same unimpeded voice. As as a little icing there is some sweet pedal guitar in his latest album, specifically "New York City's Killing Me".

Artist: Ray LaMontagne

Hook: New York City's Killing Me
Line: Trouble
Sinker: For The Summer

Dragonette

Along the lines of Metric, The Sounds, Early No Doubt...

Kind of have to wade through a lot of iffy tracks, but the good ones have rocking synth and sweet lead female.

Artist: Dragonette
Album: Galore and Fixin To Thrill

Hook: Pick Up The Phone
Line: I Get Around
Sinker: True Believer

Snow Day (At Work)

The worst (or one of the) part(s) of working for a cancer institute is their "commitment to their patients". Which means every morning that there is a snow storm you get a nice email from the president of the hospital saying, "You are an essential employee and as part of your commitment to patients you are required to come into work". While I don't mind coming into work, it is the fact that they remind us that we HAVE to every time it snows. I want an email that says, "HEY!!!! Thanks for being awesome and coming in on this snow day. At lunch the cafeteria will have free hot chocolate for all the employees". That would be a much better email...

Tuesday means new albums, here is a four-star-er. Kind of airy, kind of like a lot of other bands (see: interpol), kind of not bad.

Artist: Young The Giant
Album: Young The Giant

Hook: I Got
Line: My Body
Sinker: Strings
