New(ish)

Getting off of my rap kick, I thought some Alkaline Trio would be appropriate to head into the weekend. Sure these are their 2008 and 2010 albums, and sure they sound the same as their first album in 1998, buts that's what we like about this Illinois band.

I love the rif in "Kick Rocks" but the middle gets a little washed out with the chorus.

Artist: Alkaline Trio
Album(s): This Addiction and Agony And Irony

Hook: Kick Rocks
Line: Calling All Skeletons
Sinker: I Found A Way (give this one a chance to get going)

Going To Space

It's starting to look like a week of rap and hip-hop posts for me, I guess my music chi is rebounding from all the girl pop I subjected you to last week.

Not sure what to call this album, a mix tape/compilation/experiment. The tracks are as varied as the artists in them; from E-40 to George Clinton or Method Man to Lykke Li. You name it, it's probably in there.

Artist: N.A.S.A
Album: Spirit

Hook: N.A.S.A Music
Line: Gifted
Sinker: Samba Soul

If MGMT & Gorillaz made babies...

...you'd get this real chill sound:

Tech N9ne

Tech N9ne was kind enough to drop a new album/mixtape yesterday to help us get through the week. The new album isn't quite as hard as his old stuff, but still supports my assertion that he is one of the best rappers out there right now.

Artist: Tech N9ne
Album: Various

Hook: Dysfunctional (Sickology 101)
Line: All Day All Night (Bad Season) *New Album
Sinker: Losin My Mind (Bad Season)

I'm a little hungover... this song is old but perfect for Sunday morning errands; mellow with a little Del to get you going.

The French Kings

While looking through the blog archives I stumbled upon a comment made back in September. It was from Martin Bonventre... he was the Ratatat keyboard player that I thought was so awesome, it was a quick note to inform me of his new project. Thinking this was spam, I was warry of following the link. Finally after doing my own research and ending up at the link through my own route I accepted it was legit. The result was a free album of some pretty solid stuff. You can definitely feel the influence of touring with Ratatat (couldn't figure out if in fact it was either Mike or Evan shredding). It also has elements of Mars Volta, but without the 11 minute long songs and 8 minute breakdowns. Enjoy (link for the album is at the bottom)

(PS Sorry about the crappy youtube quality, I am still new to putting music on youtube, DL the album)

December in January

While like some of their earlier stuff (maybe 4 stars in iTunes), I'm excited to report there are a few 5 stars on this new album. I think they are finally mainstreaming a little, which is not a bad thing. Sure they may lose a little bit of their hipster cred, but it works.

Artist: The Decemberists
Album: The King Is Dead

Hook: Down By The Water
Line: June Hymn
Sinker: Rise To Me (sweet pedal guitar in this one)

A little pop diddy...

Here is a quicky that is overly catchy.

Ratatat Recap

Looking back I noticed that I only posted on LP3 and Remixes. I wont go back to pre LP3 stuff, but a lot has happened since. I know these are probably familiar by now, but I'm throwing them up to make sure they haven't been missed. The LP4 songs are a little less accessible than LP3, but listen to it a few times and it's so much better. The two songs I listed aren't the singles, but have amazing crescendos and are the ones I come back to when I listed to it.

Artist: Ratatat
Album: LP4 and Collaborations

Hook: Sunblocks (1:19 in...)
Line: Grape Juice City
Sinker: Alive (Nightmare) - Kid Cudi and Ratatat

More Chick Pop-Punk Crap

But I'm a sucker for it...

Artist: Hey Monday
Album: Beneath It All

Hook: I Don't Wanna Dance
Line: How Do You Love Me Now (off "Hold on Tight")
Sinker: Homecoming (off "Hold on Tight")

Props to Tyler

One day I came across a CD at the record store that had Tyler Parkford's name on it...yeah, the Tyler from High School! Fun Fact: his band features the 'Queens of the Stoneage' bassist. Check out this sweet song from Mini Mansions' debut album:

Amazing

My new favorite singer. Courtesy of Dave Landis.

To Compare:

My money is on Casey.

The next post is 100

Is it going to be me or you Rob?

This song is sweet; my roommate likes it, and it is easy to see why. Watch the video! Even if the song sucked, it would be worth it just to see Ronald McDonald walking out of In N Out 2/3 of the way through it; check it out for sure. Finally, gotta love the girl's tat with the CA outline and the Bear...it is in you whether you like it or not, Rob. Happy Friday!

Friday is for singles

Here are two from one of my favorite bands The Action Desgin. Both are singles off of their own albums. Hopefully this is indicative of a full length LP soon...

Artist: The Action Design
Songs: Still Standing, Desperation

Found at: FilesTube

A Quick Single...

She only has two songs and the good one is aptly named "one", so no hook only a line and a sinker.

Artist: Sky Ferreira

Hook: Obsession

Some Bass From The Ammo Box

I'm kinda fried and am too lazy to find something super fresh and I don't think I have posted this before. Its kinda a shot out to Webb dance techno days. Its pretty good stuff to work out. The Swedish versions are always better. The songs suck when they are in English.

Artist: Basshunter
Album: Now You're Gone: The Album (not the most recent but the best)

Hook: Camilla (gets good at 1:07)
